Gentlemen On Demand - G.O.D.
We often times refer to a minister as a “man of God”. In fact, the bible shows us that we are all ministers. A minister isn’t necessarily someone who stands behind a pulpit and delivers a predetermined message to a group of people. By definition, a Minister is someone who is serving as an agent for another by carrying out specified orders or functions. The one giving the orders is God. God has called us to minister to each other. The Holy Spirit moves in man to benefit himself and for the benefit of others, while God gets all the glory. Ephesians 4:12 says “His intention was the perfecting and the full equipping of the saints (His consecrated people), that they should do the work of ministering toward building up Christ’s body (the church).” So it is our job as ministers, to minister to each other.

I believe that one of the biggest struggles men have is submission. We are known as the head of our house and as the priesthood of our family and so we take that to heart and we like to remind the woman that the bible says that they should submit to their husband. But unfortunately that is only a half-truth. Christ’s philosophy isn’t “Do as I say, not as I do.” Jesus led by example. John 5:30 shows us that Jesus did nothing of himself. He totally humbled and submitted himself to the Father.

Have you ever tried to assemble something without reading the instructions? Sure… we all have. Somehow we think we are smart enough to bypass the instructions given by the one who manufactured the product and simply do it based on our own way of thinking. God offers some great life instructions in James 4:7:

  1. Submit yourself to God
  2. Resist the devil
  3. The devil will flee

Resisting and trying to fight off the devil will not work if you haven’t followed the instructions from the beginning. We must first submit ourselves wholly to God. Once we have done that, then we can resist (stand firm against) the devil and he will flee.

These two simple scriptures are the founding scriptures for our men’s ministry. We are Gentlemen On Demand (G.O.D). Like in the days of Noah, God is still looking through all the earth to identify a righteous person. There is a demand placed by God for righteous men and we are those Gentlemen On Demand. Men who strive to be better servants, better husbands, better fathers, better neighbors, better community leaders and better persons overall.
